Trending: Pom Poms
Good morning my friends!
As you know, I love trend-hunting, so I’m back to report on a fun summer trend!
I know a lot of you love to add embellishments to your quilting projects, and I’ve even recently posted about beautiful and heavily embellished “Crazy Quilts“. But did you know that embellishments, and particularly pom-poms, are SUPER popular right now? I’ve been seeing them a lot in fashion and home décor. I personally love the quirky look of pom poms! Here’s a few ideas from DIY to designer pieces to inspire you! To find out more details about all these fabulous pieces, visit our 2015 Trend Report Pinterest board!
For home décor inspiration, I like to consult the websites of stores like Anthropologie, West Elm, Joss & Main, IKEA, and more. Take a look at a few of the items I found during my search:
Pom Pom Cushions
As you can see, there are many ways to spruce up your cushions with Pom Poms! Whether it’s all over, around, or as a stripe motif, Pom Poms make cushions so fun!
Embellished Table Runner with Pom Poms
This runner would be so fun and easy to recreate! Attaching multi-coloured Pom Poms to quilted strips of various patterned cotton transforms this basic runner into a fun and fresh statement piece!
Pom Pom Curtains
I simply love the pop of color that these pom poms create on these neutral curtains!
Embroidered Wall Art
I’ve never been super talented at embroidery, maybe because I spend too much time at my sewing machine quilting, but I might have to give it a try once more since these cute embroidered wall arts would look fabulous in my house! I might make it easy for myself and just use some Vintage Market fabric and add some Pom Poms around my embroidery hoop!
Decor is a pretty safe place to use Pom Poms, but if you like to experiment with fashion, they’re are sure bet this summer! Designers like Stella McCartney, Charlotte Olympia and Raga have all incorporated pom poms into their Summer collection. Take a look!
Embellished Clothing for Kids… and adults too!
Aren’t these outfits simply adorable? In the past, embellishments with Pom Poms and Ric Racs tended to be reserved for little girls, but this summer, why not try some super cute pom pom shorts or skirt? Because of the revival of the 70s trend, embellishments are so trendy right now!
I absolutely love this fun romper! It combines two of my favorite estival trends, tribal and pom poms!
I bet you’ll be spotting this style everywhere this summer! Lightweight colourful fabric and an elastic band make these shorts super comfortable and really fashion-forward! This style is featured so many times on Pinterest and in so many adorable prints! I would love to see these made with Riley Blake’s “La Vie Boheme” fabrics.
If you’re looking for some great tutorials that feature Pom Poms, head on over to Melissa Mortenson’s blog (she’s the designer behind Riley Blake’s “Derby Style” line!) Looking for some great Pom Poms to sell in your store, check out our catalogue!
So tell me, what do you think of the pom pom trend? Would you try them in your home decor or for fashion?
