Gingham Trend for Spring & Summer 2015
Gingham Trend for Spring & Summer 2015
We’ve all seen gingham – or what is most often called “plaid” – around during the colder months. After all, what’s a winter wardrobe if not for big boots, wool socks, jeans and warm plaid flannel shirts? I’m so glad that’s over now that Spring has – finally! – arrived! While we might have pushed our plaid shirts to the back of our closets last year, this year, designers everywhere have embraced the gingham trend for Spring/Summer 2015! From clothing to decor, gingham is literally everywhere this season! To help inspire you, here’s a roundup of the trendiest gingham on the web, from fashion, to home decor, and even some quilting inspiration! Keep reading this post to find a SPECIAL promotion on some of our gingham fabrics!
Nowadays, fashion designers really set the tone for seasonal trends. In this case, it’s particularly true: high-end fashion designers love gingham! If you’re a fashionista, I’m sure you’ve seen it on runways during Fashion Week! For example, designers like Diane Von Furstenberg and Michael Kors have beautifully incorporated gingham into their Spring 2015 collections.
So long, “casual” Winter gingham look, for Spring, we dress it up! Don’t be afraid to try it out at work, going for dinner or even going out!
Not very fashion-forward when it comes to your clothes? Don’t worry, gingham is an easy look to put together. You don’t have to be fashion designer or have to spend a fortune on their clothes to adopt a casual, every-day look! During the warm season, gingham pairs wonderfully with a white pant or short – maybe avoid a dark denim-red or blue gingham combinaison as this might be too “wintery” for the season!
Although you might not associate decor with gingham as much as you would for fashion, this year it will be quite popular! Try using soft hues for small accent pieces as they will refresh your decor without overpowering the look of your home.
For example, although this room features quite a bit of gingham, the soft blue looks very modern and fresh.
If you want to have a bit of fun with gingham, why not make your own colorful placemats? I could totally see these on a patio or for a picnic.
If you really want to embrace the plaid look, then go for a bold red café curtain, which will give your kitchen a cool European vibe!
Since wedding season is just around the corner, why not try gingham as a theme? It’s rustic feel is sure to be the perfect backdrop for a summer celebration! After all, if famous actress Brigitte Bardot could wear a pink gingham wedding dress in 1959, I think it’s safe to say that a little gingham at your wedding can be quite fashion-forward while still being a classic!
Gingham is a classic for a reason! Whether you like an all-over gingham quilt, or prefer small gingham details, this pattern can be used in any quilting project! What’s great about gingham is that it’s bold pattern can really compliment lighter summer quilts since it requires less piecing.
Speaking of summer quilts, picnic blankets are great for gingham! Try a plain gingham or gingham squares, as shown on this gorgeous quilt below, and head on outside for a great family activity!
Or what about this Riley Blake FREE Gingham Quilt Pattern? This quilt is so colourful, it would make an adorable picnic blanket!
But gingham doesn’t have to be so obvious in your quilting projects. I love using gingham as quilt sashing because it’s more interesting than a plain solid fabric, yet, subtle enough to make whatever block you’re making really stand out!
If you want to really play up the vintage look of gingham, why not try something like this bright cherries-and-gingham quilt! I love the mix of yo-yos for the cherries and the gingham blocks!
If you think gingham can look too “basic” why not try a gingham-inspired pattern like this disappearing four-patch quilt?
For those of you that love a nice modern quilt, here’s a simple but really bold abstract gingham pattern!
If you’re looking for gingham fabrics, Four Seasons’ Cotton Basics collection is a great high-quality fabric. Riley Blake also has some fun and colourful gingham in their Basics collection as well (psst! my favorite is C450-20 Aqua… such a lovely color!)
For a bit of a twist on gingham, check out this gingham and dots pattern from Quilting Treasures (from their Basics collection):
For a more traditional gingham fabric, these patterns from Quilting Treasures are great! They would really look amazing as tablecloths or kitchen towels for a rustic vibe!
Finally, some of our favorite gingham fabrics, Studioe‘s “Peppered Plaids”! These more modern gingham fabrics are absolutely gorgeous and would be great for any of the above projects! Don’t you agree?
Well, I hope you enjoyed our gingham inspiration! From quilting to fashion, gingham is a sure bet this season! What’s your favorite way of using gingham? Tell us in the comments! I’m sure it won’t be a surprise to you that my favorite gingham is my picnic blanket I made a few years ago!
